DJI's Osmo Pocket 3 is one of the top action cams we've ever tested - and easily one of the most popular for creators. This is a 4K handheld camera is small enough to carry almost anywhere, designed to give creators a more dedicated video setup without the bulk of conventional camera equipment.
• Best for: Travelers, vloggers, creators, and anyone who wants stabilized 4K video without carrying a full-size camera and separate gimbal.
• The deal: The DJI Osmo Pocket 3 is now $395 (was $439) at Best Buy.
• Why it matters: We scored the Pocket 3 4.5 stars in our review, and it's easily one of our favorites, packed with features. A 1-inch CMOS sensor captures 4K video at up to 120fps, while three-axis mechanical stabilization keeps handheld footage steady. ActiveTrack 6.0, 10-bit color, and a rotating 2-inch OLED touchscreen add plenty of creative flexibility.
Today's best DJI Osmo Pocket 3 dealOsmo Pocket 3 4K Handheld Camera: was $439 now $395
The DJI Osmo Pocket 3 features a 1-inch CMOS sensor, 4K/120fps recording, three-axis mechanical stabilization, a rotating 2-inch OLED touchscreen, ActiveTrack 6.0, 10-bit color, stereo audio, and microSD storage.View Deal
In his 4.5-star review, our expert Paul called it an: "impressive camera that delivers amazing video quality and beautiful slow-motion scenes."
He added that "The introduction of a new 1-inch sensor is a game-changer for the Pocket line. It results in better image quality across both photo and video, with higher-resolution video capabilities in the slow-mo mode and greatly improved low-light capabilities."
The Pocket 3's combination of size, sensor, and mechanical stabilization makes it particularly appealing for travel, vlogging, and shooting while moving. Its three-axis gimbal physically stabilizes the camera, helping keep footage steady when you're walking, following a subject, or filming handheld.
The 1-inch CMOS sensor can record 4K footage at up to 120fps, while D-Log M and 10-bit color give you more flexibility when color grading footage afterwards.
Price context & historical valueAt $395 rather than $439, you're saving $44, which works out to a cut of 10%. This is one of the lowest prices we've seen for the Osmo Pocket 3, although it has previously been down to around $378 elsewhere.

Should you buy it?✅ Buy the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 camera if...
You shoot travel videos, vlogs, family events, or other footage while moving and want something more purpose-built than a smartphone without resorting to a full-size camera setup.
❌ Skip the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 camera if...
Still photography is your main priority, or you simply need an inexpensive camera for occasional video. Much of the Pocket 3's appeal comes from features such as the gimbal, ActiveTrack, and high-frame-rate 4K recording.
- Google paused OSS bug bounty submissions after a surge of AI-generated, invalid reports
- AI boosts vulnerability discovery but often produces flawed, incomplete, or hallucinatory findings
- Rising AI-driven bounty spam has also overwhelmed curl maintainers and Linux security reviewers
Google has revealed it is pausing one of its bug bounty program and it’s all AI’s fault.
The company said its Open Source Software Vulnerability Rewards Program (OSS VRP) is being flooded with bogus and irrelevant submissions to the point where it was simply unmanageable.
As a result, the company is pausing accepting all submissions until the end of the year, taking the time to reassess the process and come up with new solutions.
Bug hunting in the age of AIGenerative Artificial Intelligence is supercharging defenders, discovering vulnerabilities at machine speed, making software better and more resilient against exploits and zero-day vulnerabilities.
A few frontier models, including the famed Mythos and GPT-5.6-Cyber, have allowed companies to discover a hundred times more vulnerabilities in less time than ever before.
The best example is Microsoft’s Patch Tuesday. In March 2026, the company addressed 79 flaws in its products, and in April (around the time it started using Mythos) - almost double (167). From that day on, the number of patched bugs grew significantly month-over-month: 200 in June, 400 in August, and 966 in September. In just half a year, Microsoft started fixing more than ten times as many flaws.
However, machines still cannot be trusted to discover and patch vulnerabilities entirely on their own. In early August, security researchers from 1Passwords Off-by-1 Labs set out to see just how good AI was at discovering and fixing flaws and found that half (49.3%) of the patches failed to fix at least one existing exploit path. A fifth (20.1%) fixed the original issue but changed application behavior, while 2.3% introduced new security issues. Funny enough, 2.2% failed to fix the vulnerability while also introducing additional exploit paths, as well.
Even among the patches that might be considered (26% of clean ones and 20.1% of those that changed app behavior), more than a third were fragile and not entirely addressing the underlying problem. 1Password concluded that missing context was the number one challenge, finding that when given proper background information, AI was able to produce significantly better results.
Despite not being able to provide their AI with wider context, many security researchers still use AI for vulnerability discovery. Simple prompts, very little analysis, and even less human oversight, results in “discoveries” that are incorrect, unsubstantiated, and sometimes outright hallucinated. As a result, Google is (temporarily) stepping away from bounty submissions:
“We are temporarily no longer accepting OSS VRP product vulnerability submissions. This does not impact OSS VRP supply chain reports, or any outstanding reports. As an alternative, we encourage you to find impact across our other VRP programs and submit there instead, or pursue the Patch Rewards Program,” Google said in a short tweet, published on October 1 2026.
“Why is this happening? This pause is due to a significant rise in automated submissions, the vast majority of which are not valid. We will continue to reformat and work on this aspect of the OSS VRP and commit to giving an update in Q1 2027.”
HackerOne and Linus TorvaldsGoogle is not the first company whose bug bounty program choked to death on AI slop. In late January 2026, the developers of curl, the open source command-line tool and software library, announced killing their HackerOne bug bounty program due to being flooded with fake problems and vulnerabilities.
In an advisory published on GitHub, it was said that the program is being sunsetted at the end of January, 2026.
“Up until the end of January 2026 there was a curl bug bounty. It is no more,” the document reads. “The curl project no longer offers any rewards for reported bugs or vulnerabilities. We also do not aid security researchers to get such rewards for curl problems from other sources either.”
A few months later, in May, lead maintainer of the Linux security mailing list, Linus Torvalds said it was “almost entirely unmanageable” due to researchers using AI to flood it with useless reports.
“The continued flood of AI reports has basically made the security list almost entirely unmanageable, with enormous duplication due to different people finding the same things with the same tools,” he said. “People spend all their time just forwarding things to the right people or saying "that was already fixed a week/month ago" and pointing to the public discussion”.

Amazon has brought back its Prime Big Deal Days sale for yet another year, and while the event officially runs across October 6 and 7, there are early deals already live at the retailer today. I'm here to find and share all of the very best offers over the next few days, helping you uncover the biggest savings on top-rated tech and the bargains that are actually worth spending your money on.
• Browse the early Prime Big Deal Days sale
I've covered Prime Day for around a decade now, and if you haven't seen a Prime Big Deal Days sale before, it's effectively the same thing — just later in the year. The vast majority of offers are available exclusively to Amazon Prime members for 48 hours, covering everything from tech and toys to fashion and essentials.
Of course, Amazon's own-brand devices play a big part in the sale, as they always do. This means it's usually one of the best times of the year to pick up a Kindle, a Fire TV Stick, a Ring doorbell, a Blink security camera, and so on. In fact, right now, you can already get an Amazon Kindle for £84.99 (was £134.99) — that's the lowest price this year.
But there are dozens upon dozens of standout offers elsewhere, too. Some of the highlights I've spotted so far in the early sale include the Nintendo Switch 2 for a record-low price, this Oura Ring 4 for £199.99 (was £243.15) and a five-star Ninja Foodi Max Air Fryer for £161.45 (was £229.99).
From those and other offers I've seen so far, it's a solid preview of this year's upcoming Black Friday deals in November — even amidst price hikes and stock issues in some categories. So, stick with me and the rest of the expert TechRadar team as we guide you through the sale and hand-pick our favourite offers.
Just remember, you need an Amazon Prime membership to access most of these offers, but new and returning subscribers can get a 30-day Amazon Prime free trial to cover you for the sale.

The latest version of the standard Kindle is on sale as part of the Prime Big Deal Days sale. It's a basic ereader, but it still boasts a four-week battery life and space for thousands of books. Given it's significantly cheaper than the Paperwhite, this is clearly a better pick for the infrequent reader who's after a more budget-friendly option. At £85, though, this deal is a little underwhelming, given it's been as low as £69.99 before.View Deal
Foodi Max Dual Zone Air Fryer: was £229.99 now £161.45
The Ninja Foodi Max is the ultimate air fryer for many and it's now down to a great low price at Amazon. It offers six different functions, including Max Crisp, air frying, roasting, baking, reheating, and dehydrating. With two baskets, you get two independent cooking zones with the option to have them sync or match up, depending on your needs. Its extra large capacity is perfect for family cooking or batch cooking as it gives you plenty of room for a 2kg chicken or 1.4kg of fries in each compartment.View Deal
Battery Video Doorbell: was £99.99 now £39.99
The latest wireless Ring Doorbell has been discounted to just £2 more than the record-low price. We've tested this and have been impressed with the video quality, high zoom, and night vision colour, but it's a shame that some of this device's value is only usable with a Ring Protect subscription. However, if you're fine with paying for a subscription or already using a Ring-based home security system, it's worth the cost.View Deal
Amazon has the Nintendo Switch 2 at its lowest price ever for Prime Big Deal Days. Given that the console was only recently hit with a price hike, I'm surprised that you can score such a big price cut on it right now, so definitely take advantage while you can if you've been thinking of picking it up, as this price almost certainly won't be beaten all year.View Deal
Ember 50-inch 4-Series 4K TV: was £499.99 now £279.99
The 50-inch Amazon Ember TV is the mid-sized version of the budget-friendly 4-Series range and it's now down to its lowest-ever price. It's a nice buy if you're on a budget, as the premium 4K resolution delivers excellent clarity and picture quality for TV shows, movies, sports and general viewing. All major streaming apps are ready to go, too, plus there's voice control support through Alexa. It's an all-around solid TV for the price that I'd buy if I needed an affordable and capable display.View Deal
Display - 13 inches
Processor - Snapdragon X Plus
RAM - 16GB
Storage - 512GB
The latest Microsoft Surface Laptop is one of our favourite Windows devices and received a glowing five-stars in our Microsoft Surface Laptop review, so I'm obviously going to call out this solid saving at Amazon. This particular specification includes a powerful Snapdragon X Plus processor, a healthy 16GB of RAM and a reasonable 512GB SSD. That storage feels a little light for the price, but the levels of performance and battery life from the CPU are top-tier to go alongside the swish-looking display and keyboard.View Deal
iO Series 3: was £175 now £59.99
The iO range is usually a more expensive option in Oral-B's range of electric toothbrushes, but this is a decent deal on the entry-level option that's also bundled with a few handy extras. It doesn't boast many high-end features but it has the basic ones you really need to brush your teeth effectively and efficiently, including a two-minute timer and a visible pressure sensor. Plus, you get spare brush head and a carry case included for free.View Deal
I'm not sure how I feel about smart rings, but our fitness editor, Matt Evans, is a big fan of the Oura Ring 4. He said it was "nearly the perfect fitness tracker" in our review, praising the design, ease-of-use, long-lasting battery and detailed health information it offers. This fascinating bit of tech is now down to its lowest-ever price on Amazon — although be warned that some sizes and colours are selling out.View Deal
The Philips OneBlade 360 is a quick, simple and affordable electric razor that's suitable for a wide variety of face and body grooming needs. This jam-packed bundle was a little cheaper over Prime Day, but today's offer is still a solid one. This bundle includes the handle, as well as two spare blades, four combs, a body kit, and a USB-A charging cable.View Deal
Amazon Prime Big Deal Days — Deals under £50USB-C Charger Cable (2-Pack): was £7.99 now £5.69
Can you ever have too many USB cables? The box full of them under my desk would suggest you can. However, if you want a couple more to leave around the house or take with you when out and about, this pair of USB-C to USB-A cables from top brand Anker is now super-cheap for Prime Day.View Deal
TurboForce Power Fan: was £29.99 now £25.49
This small desk fan has been a popular buy all summer as it's a cheap yet powerful option, so it's worth shouting out again while it's on sale for Prime Day. It's not the most advanced fan out there, but you get three speed settings and quiet operation, which makes it a good choice for your desk while working or on the side table at night.View Deal
Soundcore Portable Speaker 2: was £28.49 now £22.99
If you want a cheap and basic Bluetooth speaker, then you can't go wrong with this Anker Soundcore for a little over £20. Sure, it's not going to give you the biggest and boldest audio quality, but it's still a solid option at an affordable price. Battery life is an impressive 24 hours, too, so it's great to use around the home or take it with you when on the go.View Deal
Get the highly rated Renpho smart scale on sale for under £20 for Prime Day. The smart scale has over 300,000 reviews on Amazon and holds a solid 4.5-star rating. You can use this smart device to measure your body fat ratio, BMI, and weight via the Renpho app.View Deal
This Warmco Portable handheld fan is a slightly more high-tech and serious-looking device. Again, we haven't reviewed it, but it does have good Amazon reviews and the price is right thanks to this current deal. According to the user reviews, this looks to be a surprisingly powerful little fan that's capable of 3 to 13 hours of operation per charge.View Deal
DeskJet 2921 All-in-One Wireless Inkjet Printer: was £54.99 now £34.99
If you need a cheap and cheerful printer, this DeskJet 2921 is a great budget choice that supports wireless printing, scanning, and copying. This bundle also includes three months of HP Instant Ink, so you can save cash on your first few rounds of prints.View Deal
Here's a great price for the appliance we awarded 4.5 stars out of five in our Shark Stratos Cordless Stick Vacuum Cleaner review. Again, I can't praise these vacuums enough for the Anti Hair Wrap tech that's saved me so much time unclogging the brush roll compared to my old vacuum. Flexology makes it a good option for reaching under furniture and this upgraded Stratos version boasts anti-odour tech and CleanSense IQ that automatically adjusts suction power to tackle tougher areas of dirt. Battery life is an impressive 60 minutes.View Deal
The Dyson V8 is now older, but it remains one of the top affordable vacuums and also one of the best Dyson vacuums – period. This still more-than-capable vacuum comes with a couple of essential attachments for cleaning around the home. Given its age and basic features, it's a struggle to recommend it at its full price, but now that it's discounted so heavily at Currys, it's an easy recommendation.View Deal

Promising simplicity of use, the De'Longhi Magnifica Evo has a straightforward touch control panel that allows you to brew your favourite cup of coffee with the minimum amount of effort. It also has a silent integrated grinder with 13 settings, plus a handy milk frother, so it’s a good all-in-one solution for those who love a cup of joe but want to skip all the faff of making the drink. We liked it enough in our De'Longhi Magnifica Evo Next review, in which we awarded it four stars out of five.View Deal
Sage makes some of the best coffee machines we've ever tested here at TechRadar, so I definitely want to shout out this offer on its excellent The Barista Express. We awarded it 4.5 stars in our review for its ease of use, bevvy of customisable settings and tasty results. While it's still a pricey machine, it's worth the investment if you really want to get into your coffee-making at home.View Deal
We may be about to hit the colder months, but the Ninja Creami ice cream maker is still a quick and convenient way to make all of your favourite frozen treats, milkshakes and sorbets at the touch of a button. While it was a little cheaper than this last Black Friday, today's offer is the best I've seen all year for the popular appliance.View Deal
A smart kettle feels like a bit of a gimmick, but if you make a variety a different hot drinks that taste better when brewed at specific temperatures, then I could see a reason why you'd want to invest in this Ninja Perfect Temperature Kettle. With this discount, it's much easier to justify a purchase compared to the steep full price.View Deal
Aquatak 120: was £109.99 now £82.99
I did a lot of research before picking up this pressure washer for myself a couple of years ago and it's been an excellent buy for simple cleaning tasks around the home, such as patios, decking, walls and cars. While we haven't tested this model at TechRadar, it's been praised elsewhere for its solid build quality, strong water pressure and portability. You also get a good selection of attachments in this bundle, including a patio cleaner, wash brush and detergent nozzle.View Deal

Fire TV Stick 4K Select: was £64.99 now £21.99
Amazon's newest 4K streaming stick is down to within £2 of its lowest-ever price for Prime Big Deal Days. It lacks a few premium features found in the more expensive Plus and Max models, such as improved Wi-Fi and Dolby Atmos, but this is more than enough to cover general everyday use.View Deal

As well as all the basic fitness, health and sleep tracking features, the Galaxy Fit3 is an excellent extension to your smartphone that lets you check your messages, control your music and navigate easily with simple gestures. Everything centres around the impressive 1.6-inch AMOLED display, and battery life is also not a problem, with 13 days on a single charge.View Deal
The Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 has been superseded by a brand-new model, so Amazon is shifting all of its remaining stock for a low price. We were incredibly impressed with the smartwatch in our review, as it felt like a big step forward for the wearable. There's the stylish design, as well as advanced health and fitness tracking features, and a smart running coach. This offer will disappear in a flash with such limited stock, so I'd grab it while you can if you want one of the best smartwatch deals we'll see all year and you're happy with slightly older tech.View Deal
Amazon Prime Big Deal Days — Health & BeautyiO Series 3: was £175 now £59.99
The iO range is usually a more expensive option in Oral-B's range of electric toothbrushes, but this is a decent deal on the entry-level option that's also bundled with a few handy extras. It doesn't boast many high-end features but it has the basic ones you really need to brush your teeth effectively and efficiently, including a two-minute timer and a visible pressure sensor. Plus, you get spare brush head and a carry case included for free.View Deal
Amazon Prime Big Deal Days — GamingAmazon has the Nintendo Switch 2 at its lowest price ever for Prime Big Deal Days. Given that the console was only recently hit with a price hike, I'm surprised that you can score such a big price cut on it right now, so definitely take advantage while you can if you've been thinking of picking it up, as this price almost certainly won't be beaten all year.View Deal
Ideal for younger gamers, the Nex Playground comes with games ready to play out of the box, such as Fruit Ninja, Whac-a-Mole, and more. It's now down to a record-low price at Amazon. This neat little console relies on intuitive motion controls and is a locked-down system designed specifically with young children in mind.View Deal
RAM and graphics card prices have been dreadful lately, but at least the same issues haven't impacted CPUs just yet. As an example, this AMD Ryzen 5 9600X is down to its lowest price in months for Prime Big Deal Days. It's a solid mid-range CPU for general use and gaming — and it's even the one I'm using right now in my PC. I've been very impressed with it, and at this price, it's hard to beat for value for money.View Deal
October 5, 2026 – 11:06 AMThanks for joining me...(Image credit: Future)You blink and it's almost Black Friday again. Yes, the end-of-year mega sale it's technically just under two months away, but we're getting an early preview of what's to come with the Amazon Prime Big Deal Days event across October 6 - 7.
As someone who's covered Prime Day sales for a decade now (wow, that's far too long), I'm here to help you hunt down all of the very best deals in this year's event — along with some handy assists from the rest of the TechRadar team.
So, let's begin with some of the early deals that are available now before the sale starts properly tomorrow.
October 5, 2026 – 11:20 AMMy standout deal from day zero(Image credit: Future)If there's one offer I was genuinely surprised to see in the Prime Big Deal Days sale, it's this record-low price for the Nintendo Switch 2. With all the price hikes around games consoles lately, I only imagined this would get more expensive over the next few months, so it's well worth grabbing one now if you were planning to treat yourself or get one as a Christmas gift. I really don't think it'll be as low as this again for some time.
Nintendo Switch 2: was £419.99 now £354.99 at Amazon
October 5, 2026 – 11:37 AMLet's not forget the Kindle deal(Image credit: Amazon)Amazon just unveiled a couple of new Kindle models, so naturally, there are discounts on the previous-generation version for Prime Big Deal Days.
Now, I should point out that a couple of these have actually been cheaper in the past, but the days of such aggressive price cuts appear to be far behind us now. This is still a decent offer for the standard Kindle, though, an is unlikely to be beaten over Black Friday.
Amazon Kindle: was £139.99 now £84.99 at Amazon
October 5, 2026 – 12:15 PMOf course there's an air fryer on sale(Image credit: Future / Ninja / Edited with Gemini)Anyone out there without an air fryer yet? Amazingly, I still don't have one, but it's getting harder not to be tempted after yet another excellent offer on the Ninja Foodi Max. This five-star-rated appliance is currently 30% off for Prime Big Deal Days.
Ninja Foodi Max Air Fryer: was £229.99 now £161.45 at Amazon
October 5, 2026 – 12:34 PMHere's one I actually bought last time(Image credit: Future)When I think back to this time last year when I decided I'd upgrade my ageing PC, I feel I got extremely lucky. The RAM and storage crisis was only just picking up, so I managed to sneak in with some key components before the costs really skyrocketed.
One of the items I bought was this AMD Ryzen 5 9600X, and it's been an impressive CPU in my new rig over the last 10 months for work, productivity, and a bit of light gaming. It gets a huge thumbs up from me if you're looking for a solid budget-friendly CPU.
AMD Ryzen 5 9600X: was £249.99 now £139.99 at Amazon
October 5, 2026 – 1:10 PMA strong early laptop dealAll of the back-to-school sales are now behind us, but if you've found you're current laptop isn't cutting it in the classroom, or just want a capable new device for home use, then there are a couple of good options in the Prime Big Deal Days sale.
The one is recommend the most is this Asus Vivobook 15. It's a little older now, sure, but it still offers impressive overall power and performance for the price, with a 15.6-inch display, excellent AMD Ryzen 7 processor, a useful 16GB of RAM, a reasonable 512GB of SSD storage, all for around £400.
Asus Vivobook 15: was £476 now £402.99 at Amazon
October 5, 2026 – 1:44 PMA good time to stock up on essentialsOf course, it's the big tech deals that are always the more exciting items in any Prime Day sale. But, over recent years, it's become an equally good opportunity to stock up on a few cheap essentials. I'll be picking out a few of those deals over the next few days, starting with this multipack of Duracell AA batteries.
Duracell Plus AA Batteries (36-Pack): was £29.99 now £24.99 at Amazon
October 5, 2026 – 3:37 PMCheap TVs are already on offerAmazon Ember TVs (they used to be called Fire TVs) are a regular feature of any Prime Day sale. And while they may not be the most powerful or advanced displays, we rate several of them as good options if you want a capable budget to watch live TV or stream your favourite shows.
Amazon Ember 50-inch 4K TV: was £499.99 now £279.99 at Amazon
It seemed like it might never happen, but the weather is finally starting to turn cooler — and if you're anything like me, you'll soon be reaching for your thickest socks and jumpers. I won't go as far as turning the heating on though, because the Blueair ComfortPure 3-in-1 air purifier and heater is now just £237 (was £399) in the Amazon Prime Day sale.
I'm a naturally chilly person (I keep a heated pad under my desk year-round) and I've been on the lookout for a compact fan heater to keep myself snug when working from home, and this Blueair model is perfect. Not only does it warm a small- to medium-sized room in the colder months, it also serves as a cooling fan during summer heatwaves, and filters dirt and allergens out of the air all year round.

This three-in-one device got the seal of approval from our reviewer Becca Caddy, so I know it'll be a reliable buy. "One feature I particularly liked was the way the purifier automatically ramped up when air quality dropped and then settled back down once conditions improved," she said. "It meant the unit never felt like it needed to run at full power all the time."
That's great news considering the cost of fuel, and combined with this huge Prime Day discount, makes it a great value alternative to cranking up the central heating.
Today's best Blueair dealsComfortPure 3-in-1 T10i Air Purifier: was £399 now £237
A heater isn't just for winter — not when it's also an air purifier to tackle allergens, and a cooling fan to keep you comfortable during heatwaves. This clever app- or remote-operated unit is all three, and with 41% off, it's great value in Amazon's pre-Prime Day sale.View Deal
ComfortPure 3-in-1 T10i Air Purifier: was $499.99 now $319.95
The same great three-in-one fan heater and purifier has received a huge price cut in the US as well, with $180 off. Stock is limited though, so you'll need to move fast to grab one. View Deal
Unlike some of the best air purifiers we've tested here at TechRadar, the T10i won't look out of place in your home office, kitchen, or bedroom. Its off-white colour and minimal styling mean it feels premium without trying too hard. We also appreciate its anti-tip sensor, which switches the unit off automatically if it's knocked over.
The mobile app is excellent too, letting you adjust the Blueair's settings, set schedules, and even set it to activate based on your location. Want your room to start heating or cooling so it's comfortable when you arrive home? You can do exactly that.
Future / Becca CaddyFuture / Becca CaddyFuture / Becca CaddyFuture / Becca CaddyFuture / Becca CaddyYou don't need to reach for your phone each time you want to change the T10i's settings, though. It also has a top-mounted control panel and remote control. Alternatively, you can link it to Amazon Alexa and control it from an Amazon Echo speaker via voice commands.
For us, the only real drawback was the price, but with this pre-Prime Day deal, that's no longer an issue.
- Milk Dragon uses fake ecommerce sites and social media deals to steal payment data
- Malware captures credentials and MFA codes in real time, even before form submission
- Campaign targeted victims in 66 countries, abusing trusted brands and banks
If you come across a post on social media promoting huge discounts on major brands such as Lego or Calvin Klein, be extra careful, as security researchers Group-IB have warned these could be fake, and part of an elaborate scheme to steal your money.
In their report, the researchers said they uncovered a major scam campaign run by a group they are calling Milk Dragon.
For at least a year now, this threat actor has been using a phishing kit of the same name to create spoofed versions of popular ecommerce websites, sometimes even using AI to create entirely fake listings.
Phishing with a spinFake ecommerce sites with offers simply too good to pass up on are not a new tactic.
Recent FTC Consumer Sentinel data shows 376,830 reports in the "online shopping and negative reviews" category in 2023, with nearly $400 million in reported losses. The median reported loss was $126, with more than half of reports involving financial losses.
What makes this campaign unique is that it abuses trusted channels - social media groups and pages - to deliver the lure. Usually, these lures would be sent out via phishing emails, but since email providers have caught up with most of the tactics and have become rather good at filtering spam, threat actors turned to the next best thing - social media.
In this case, the listings were shared on Facebook and TikTok mostly, Group-IB said, primarily in groups where users hunt for similar bargains. That way, they might not even realize they are actually being targeted by an advanced infostealer.
As Group-IB explained, the websites come with a piece of malware called BytePress which captures all of the information submitted and sends it to the attackers’ command-and-control panel.
What makes BytePress particularly dangerous is the fact that victims don’t even have to submit the information - simply typing it into the form is enough, since the malware can stream what the victim types character by character, in real-time.
When the victim finally submits the data, it gets relayed through attacker infrastructure to the legitimate website, which often returns requests for one-time passwords and similar multi-factor authentication. The request is sent back to the victim and once again picked up, defeating any multi-factor authentication they might have set up.
Buying timeIn the end, the victim will get a fake order confirmation, and Milk Dragon will display what appears to be a successful purchase. That way, the victim will believe everything is in order and won’t rush to contact their bank and freeze their credit card or reset their credentials. In the meantime, crooks can use those details in whatever malicious way they please.
Milk Dragon doesn’t seem to be targeting any country, or people, specifically. It cast a relatively wide net, with victims being found in 66 countries around the world. However, according to Group-IB’s report, the majority of the victims were found in three countries: Malaysia (1,300+), Singapore (1,200+), and Thailand (1,100+).
The group also doesn’t seem to be particularly fond of any specific brand. A total of 21 popular brands were spoofed, across cosmetics & fashion, food & beverages, home & baby products, as well as toy industries. Regional supermarkets are also frequent impersonation targets, it seems, as well as 36 financial institutions and banks.
The Milk Dragon phishing kit is being sold on Telegram channels as a service, with various hacking groups paying either monthly, or yearly fees. The tool is being sold from 300 USDT (cryptocurrency) a month, with various subscription plans and add-ons.
Today is James Bond day. And as a 007 super-fan and home office expert, there was only one item I wanted to see get a discount at Amazon: the iconic Parker Jotter ballpoint featured in GoldenEye. Now, this one won't explode after three clicks, but I can't fault the smooth writing experience here.
• Best for: Professionals, double-O agents, and those of discerning taste who want an affordable, elegant writing solution issued by Q Branch.
• The deal: The Parker Jotter refillable ballpoint pen is now $11 (was $13) at Amazon. In the UK, the Jotter is down to £15 (was £17).
• Why we like it: When it comes to movie memorabilia, I always like gear that looks like it's in-universe - not plastered with logos that remove the illusion. And this is the exact model Pierce Brosnan used in his 007 debut. I have more than one of these on my desk. It's a great price, and I especially like that it's refillable.
Jotter Ballpoint Pen: was $12.82 now $10.89
As seen in GoldenEye, the Parker Jotter is a must for Bond fans and anyone looking to bring understated elegance to the workspace.
In the UK: now £15 (was £17)View Deal
Why we recommend itThis has to be one of the most affordable gifts to celebrate James Bond day. It's not just that this Parker pen was seen in a James Bond film that appeals to me. I genuinely enjoy writing with this pen. It delivers a smooth writing experience across the page, which is ideal you take a lot of notes at work. I also like that it's refillable, which means you can bring it back to pristine condition after the ink runs dry. Pair it with a Moleskine or Leuchtturm1917 notebook for the best experience.
Price context & historical valueThe Parker Jotter is already an affordable pen, so this discount is a welcome extra. From my investigations, this is about the average price to pay - it's a long time since I've seen this as cheap as its lowest ever price of $6, and it's around 50 cents more than it was during the July Prime Day sale. Of course, Q hasn't packed this one full of his 'special ingredients', which helps keeps the cost down.
For more WFH gear, we're tracking the best Prime Big Deal Days home office upgrades.
